What is Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy is a client-centred health profession concerned with promoting health and well-being through occupation.

Occupational therapists work with people of all ages, abilities and diagnoses to support them to grow their everyday life skills, and to be able to participate in the day-to-day activities they want to do, or are expected to do.

This could include those activities required to take care of oneself (such as showering, getting dressed, cooking, using a phone or shopping), vocational activities (such as school, work, volunteering), and leisure and recreational activities (play, hobbies, interests and attending social events).

Intervention is person centred and tailored to your individual needs. It focuses on providing advice, techniques, skills training, task adaptation or modifying the environment to allow you to do something independently, or more easily and safely.

AbilOT NT is here to support you to overcome the barriers that are getting in the way of you participating in all aspects of everyday life and living with more independence.

OT’s are registered in Australia with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
